Self-care is not selfish. We cannot nurture others from a dry well.
If we practice preventative wellness and replenish our emotional reserves BEFORE they hit the empty line, then we can give even more to others. Massage is a very effective way to access the wisdom of our bodies. It is not just luxurious pampering, but a healing art that serves as preventive medicine. It has deep healing effects, helping us to get in communion with our bodies through the mirror of another’s educated touch. We all need nurturing support from time to time, and there are occasions where a qualified bodyworker can help in more ways than we can help ourselves – not only in relation to physical muscle tension, but also with regards to releasing stuck emotional blockages. Nature is cyclical, and with each changing season, we have a new opportunity for a New Beginning. Look at the trees, for example. The leaves no longer benefit the tree, and so the tree freely releases them. With this image of nature in mind, tonight when you go to bed, think of yourself as an autumn tree and what you want freely realease from your life. In clearing away the old, we are more receptive to the new. Try to let go of at least one item, one thought, one grudge that is no longer need it in your life. Don't forget to keep warm, calm and nourish yourself Take a gentle form of exercise such as Yoga, Pilates or Tai-Chi. Sit and enjoy the beautiful smells and colors of the Autumn. Autumn is the perfect time for a warm oil treatment as Abhyanga full body massage or Foot & Head massage with warm medicated oil. Looking forward to see you soon and help you to get the best out of this season. Maria Amparo xx Ayurveda, Acupressure & Reflexology www.ayurvedaclinicdublin.weebly.com Ayurveda means “science of life” and is a holistic system that seeks the wellbeing of a person. Within Ayurveda, each individual has a personal constitution that is based on three doshas (vata, pitta or kapha). They can be balanced through a variety of treatments such as Ayurvedic Massage Treatment, Dietary changes and various Body exercises (asanas). The aim for balancing the doshas, is to make us Feel Good and Happy, to feel in balance with nature and our environment and body-mind balance. I'm a firm believer that Health is Happiness and Happiness is Health. YOUR VATA DOSHA Vata-body type is made up of ether and air element. The word vata means “moving” and characterizes a Vata person as hyperactive, impulsive, creative and unfocused. They are diverse, quick thinkers and speakers and fast learners but forget easily. Vata people have a slim and narrow body type and they do not easily gain weight. In addition, they are very mobile people. They often have dry skin and cold feet and hands. At work, they don’t have any routines, instead they are more chaotic and have the tendency to handle too many projects at once, but they can adapt to any situation and are very enthusiastic and flexible. They would be more balanced by having routines, prioritizing and believing in themselves. Before making fast decisions, they should sleep on it and learn to be more thorough doing things. A step by step approach is advisable as well as allowing time for thoughts to be processed. They benefit from regular meal times and habits. They are naturally caring people but also have a strong tendency to worry too much and feel anxious about being alone. Imbalances are found in joint pain, muscle aches, frustration, constipation, sleep disorders, headache, PMS and psychosomatic disorders. YOUR PITTA DOSHA Pitta body type is mainly made up of the fire element and little water. A Pitta person is sharp-minded, strives for perfection, competitive, strong-willed and dominant. They tend to get irritated or frustrated in stressful situations. Their character is passionate, energetic and intense. Pitta people are of medium body build. They have a fast metabolism and can eat a lot. Pitta people have a deep sleep and rarely wake up during the night. They have a tendency to be workaholics and control freaks and need to find a balance between “doing” and “relaxing”. They need to be less demanding on themselves and others. They often feel exhausted and tired and therefore need to do less. Balance may be achieved by doing more mind-calming activities like meditation. They are very organized, ambitious and determined with a good business sense. They are excellent in communicating their thoughts and ideas. Their physical imbalances are related to heat and the fire element and therefore are more likely to develop stomach problems like heartburn and gastritis, skin problems, migraines and other inflammatory conditions. YOUR KAPHA DOSHA Kapha body type is characterized by the water and earth elements, which means that Kapha people have a stable, strong and calm character. A Kapha person is tolerant, loving and compassionate. They works systematically and think things through before making decisions. They rarely get angry. Kapha people often feel heavy in their body and mind and easily gain weight and muscle mass. They can sleep for long hours. Their digestion and metabolism is very slow and all activities like eating, talking and thinking is done in their own pace and more slowly. They would benefit from more physical activity (fitness and strength) and more daylight. Their physical imbalances are related to the water element and manifest as cold, sinusitis or other conditions with a lot of mucus production, obesity, diabetes, problems with the lymphatic system, depression and allergic problems. Spring is the best time of year for cleansing and detoxification which are an important part of the Ayurvedic approach to Health and Happiness. Here there are some simple tips the get the best of this beautiful season : 1. Renew Your Resolutions Spring is a time when things change and grow vigorously. So right now, take another look at your New Year resolutions and think how are going the changes that you want to do in your life. 2. Increase Your Exercise Routine (or even start!) Feeling restless? That’s normal this time of year. Instead of letting that agitation irritate you, take yourself to the next level. Walk a little longer, even faster, bike uphill, go to yoga class. Of course you should still honor your body and rest when you need to, but don’t use that as an excuse to be lazy. You might be surprised at what you can accomplish, and how great you feel, when you do. 3. Lighten Up Your Food Spring is a time for expanding energy, not storing. Replace soups and roasts with lightly steamed or stir-fried ingredients that still have a bit of their crunch and their nutrition value. 4. Wake-Up Earlier and enjoy outside The sun is shining earlier and staying out later. Support your internal rhythms and experiment by starting your day with the sun. Go outside to watch the sunset, Phoenix Park is such amazing place to go and so near of all of us. 4. Go for an Ayurvedic Treatment
